VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – 83-year-old JoAnn Nathan of Valley City was seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into her on a Valley City sidewalk on Sunday, March 10th around 3pm.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said a 2021 Ford Expedition reversed northbound from being parked facing south along the roadway in the 100 block of 3rd Street Northwest. The driver, 85-year-old Ralph Thompson from Page, North Dakota continued to travel in a counter-clockwise direction striking two parked and unattended vehicles. His Expedition continued onto a sidewalk north of the roadway, striking the pedestrian. The vehicle continued its trajectory, striking another parked and unattended vehicle in a parking lot south of the roadway before coming to rest facing west after striking an office apartment building.
Nathan sustained life threatening injuries and was transported from the scene to Mercy Hospital by Barnes County Ambulance before being flown to Fargo by Sanford AirMed. Her condition has not been released. No occupants inside the building were injured. All vehicles involved sustained moderate damage.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Valley City Police Department.
