Della Mae Ham, (Brauer) was the daughter of the late Harry and Martha Brauer, and was born April 26th, 1940, in Fredonia, ND. She attended Edgeley High School, graduating in 1958. After graduation she worked as a waitress in her family’s café where she met and married James Ham on Dec. 27th, 1959.
Della and her husband of 58 years Jim raised their family of 4 children in the communities of Monango, Marion, Kulm, and finally Edgeley in 1984. Della was a devoted wife and mother, and she excelled at baking and cooking, but entertaining was her specialty. She would often spend weeks creating treats and planning the meals for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other get-togethers, as she was happiest when she was surrounded by family. However, it was in the role of Grandmother that Della most excelled. Nothing brought her more joy than to babysit and to spend time with her beloved grandchildren, and later great grandchildren. Della also enjoyed playing the games of scrabble and cards, as these would give her the chance to show off her natural gift of gab. She had the ability to make friends with anyone as she could make even strangers instantly feel at ease due to her sincerity, compassion, and genuine desire to help people. This desire to help others was most visible in her service to the Manor St. Joseph where she at one time worked as the morning cook and volunteered reading at the weekly masses. The manor became a special place to Della, as she would spend many evenings playing cards and visiting with her friends the nuns who resided there.
Della is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Virgil) Allen, Ingram, TX; three sons, Kirk (Vicki) Ham, Park River, ND; David Ham, Charlottesville, VA; Brian (Laura) Ham, Dickinson, ND; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Chris, Jacob, Josh, Kaden, Jordan, and Addison; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Luke, Cayson, Adalee and Brauer; one brother, Darwin Brauer and one sister, Debbie Wald; Della was preceded in death by her parents, sister Arlis, and husband James. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Manner St. Joseph, Edgeley, ND.
