JAMESTOWN, N.D. (UJ) – The University of Jamestown Music Department is hosting a Guest/Faculty Recital on Thursday, February 29 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Reiland Fine Arts Center lobby on UJ’s campus.
Guest performer Dr. Melissa McCann, soprano, will perform alongside UJ faculty member and pianist John Clodfelter, MM. “We both love how different languages, cultures, and composers reflect this experience we call life,” said Clodfelter.
The program, which the pair performed this past January in Bismarck, will feature songs in Italian, German, French, Hungarian, Russian, and English. It covers the mid-19th century romantic period to 20th century jazz. “I would say we chose each other because we are both passionate about the intersections between poetry and music,” said Clodfelter. “Personally, I hope this is just the first of many future concerts.” Clodfelter, who has trained throughout the United States and Austria, is an assistant professor of piano and piano-arts at the University of Jamestown. He teaches both piano and music history.
McCann is a Coloratura Soprano, meaning she is the highest and sometimes fastest of all singer types, with training throughout the U.S. and Italy. She is an Assistant Professor of Music at University of Mary in Bismarck. More information on the performance can be found at uj.edu/events
