CRETE, NE – Ninth-ranked 155-pounder Alyssa Johnson of Jamestown qualified for the NAIA National Women’s Wrestling Championships Saturday by winning in her weight class in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Doane University’s Fuhrer Field House.
The Jimmies’ Agatha Andrews also qualified for nationals with a fifth-place finish at 191 pounds.
Three other UJ wrestlers placed: Rayana Sahagun, third at 109 pounds; Jenna Gerhardt, fourth at 116 and Samantha Weeks, fifth at 123.
Johnson had pins in her first three matches before winning the 155-pound championship with a 10-0 tech fall against 19th-ranked Aspen Barber of Doane.
Wildcard selections for nationals will be announced by 5:00 PM on Tuesday.
The NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championships will be held in Jamestown at Harold Newman Arena on March 8-9.
