Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The top 4 seeds all advanced to the semifinals with opening round wins at the Jamestown Civic Center. Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier (EKM), top seed, Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock (LHMB), 2 seed, Ellendale, 3 seed, and LaMoure Litchville-Marion (LLM), 4 seed picked up wins.

#1 EKM Rebels  70     #8 Kidder County (KC) Wolves  15

The Wolves kept it close for a quarter trailing 6-5 after the opening 8 minutes. It was all EKM after that, outscoring KC 51-7 in the second and third quarters and went on to the 55 point win, 70-15. Brad Kinzler and Jacob Nitschke scored game high 15 points and Zeke Barnick added 11 for the Rebels. Nitschke added 7 rebounds. Joe Kramlich added 8 points and a game high 6 steals and Connor Strobel added a game high 8 rebounds and added 6 points. Lincoln Harter paced KC with 4 points.

#4 LLM Loboes  55      #5  Medina-Pingree-Buchanan (MPB) Thunder  46

The Loboes and Thunder played a tight first quarter with LLM taking a 16-14 advantage. The second quarter was the turning point of the game as the Loboes outscored MPB 15-5 and held a 31-19 lead. The Thunder would outscore LLM 27-24 in the second half but never made a big enough run to threaten the Loboe lead. LLM was paced by Max Musland with a team high 18 points and added 7 rebounds. Blase Isaacson added 15 points, Owen Lesko 14 points and 6 rebounds. Gunner Thielges had a game high 8 rebounds to aid the Loboe win. MPB was paced by Terek Kinzell with a game high 19 points. Gage Magstadt added 9 points and a game high 8 rebounds. Chase Ova and Rylan Wick added 7 points apiece as well for the Thunder.

#2 LHMB Lions  72      Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter (NGS) Imperials  39

The Lions jumped out to a 18-4 first quarter lead and rolled to the 72-39 victory. Gentry Richter scored a game high 21 points, 6 steals, and added 7 rebounds pacing the Lion victory. Jace Jochim added 16 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Justin Tschocik scored 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and a game high 7 assists. The Imperials were led by Tristan Schaffner with 19 points, 3 steals, and a game high 9 rebounds. Trevor Moos added 8 points and 8 rebounds.

#3 Ellendale Cardinals  63       South Border (SB) Mustangs  51

Kade Schimke had a game high 17 points and added 7 rebounds to help lead the Cardinals past the Mustangs. Mason Molan added 15 points and 7 rebounds, Jack Bommersbach with 12 points, and Anton Geller with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. SB was paced by Trevor Schmitt with 16 points and a game high 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Levi Buchholz added 11 points and Colin Goettle added 10 points, 2 assists, and a game high 3 steals.

The district 2 tournament will resume at 3:00 P.M. on Monday with consolation games between KC and MPB at 3:00 and NGS versus SB 20 minutes after game 1. Semifinals between EKM and LLM will start 20 minutes after game 2 and LHMB versus Ellendale to start 20 minutes after game 3. Pregame will start at 2:45 on Thunder 98.3 and www.newsdakota.com
