MAYVILLE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2024 Division A Girls Region 2 Basketball tournament kicked off Monday with two quarterfinal elimination contests at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse on the campus of Mayville State University. In the first game of the day, it was number four seeded Four Winds/Minnewaukan defeating the number five seeded Grafton Spoilers 53-33. In the second game, No. 3 Carrington wins over No. 6 seed Hillsboro/Central Valley 59-39. Carrington improves to 16-6 overall, HCV drops to 8-14 overall and ends their season.

The Cardinals led the entire way, jumping out to an early 6-0 lead early in the first quarter before HCV got on the board. The Cardinals had a balanced attack, leading the way was Isabel Wendel with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals. Kacie Rexin, Kenadie Pazdernik and Edyn Hoornaert added nine each. The Burros had 10 points each from Paige Cotton, Megan Ensign and Brynley Lessard. HCV had 26 total turnovers, Carrington just 10.

530pm – No. 1 Thompson vs. No. 4 Four Winds/Minnewaukan (semifinal)

7pm – No. 2 Devils Lake vs. No. 3 Carrington (semifinal)
