Fargo, North Dakota (NewsDakota.com)—-The South Border (SB) Mustangs capped off the 2024 state wrestling championships with a 36-30 victory over Northern Lights (NL) to win the 2024 class B dual championship. The Mustangs won the individual team title less than 24 hours earlier. Entering the duals, SB was the number three seed and defeated New Salem-Almont 43-23 in the opening round. The Mustangs would get a big semifinal win over arch rival Lisbon 28-27. Lisbon led 27-13 entering the final 3 matches, 2 pins from Daniel Schumacher (189), Shane Nitschke (285), and a 6-0 decision for Cole Nitschke at 215 powered the SB comeback victory. The Mustangs trailed 15-0 to start the title match against NL, but fought their way back to a 36-30 win. NL won 7 of the 13 matches in the finals but SB won all 6 of their matches by pin or medical/injury default.
Lisbon (2 seed) ended up in third place defeating Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central (KBBC) 57-12 in the opening round before falling to SB in the semifinals. The Broncos would defeat top seeded Velva (who lost to NL in the semis 35-30) in a lopsided 57-9 final.
Carrington finished in seventh place losing to top seeded Velva 37-19 in the opening round. The Cards would fall to Killdeer in the consolation semifinals 40-36 before defeating KBBC 45-28 in the 7th place match.
