(NewsDakota.com) Both Oakes High School basketball teams played against separate District 1 teams on Thursday night, the girls earned a win, while the boys took another tough loss.

The boys hosted Sargent Central in the north gym in a battle of teams with 1-3 records in the district. The Cadets lead the game wire-to-wire and came out on top 65-57, despite a few runs by the Tornadoes, especially in the fourth quarter; outscoring the Cadets 23-15.

Justin Arp was a force to be reckoned with, scoring 34 points in the victory. Two Tornadoes scored in double figures; Bryce Meehl had 19, and Ethan Zetocha chipped in 16. With the loss Oakes falls to 1-4 in District 1 and 3-9 overall.

In the south gym, the girls of Oakes were victorious over the Hankinson Pirates 61-47 to improve their records to the .500 mark; 1-1 in District 1 and 4-4 overall.

Both Oakes teams head to Groton South Dakota on Saturday for a doubleheader.
