JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police Department has issued a public notice to residents regarding a new high-risk sex offender who has taken up residence within the city limits.
The individual in question is identified as Ronald Scott Thompson, aged 61, whose current address is listed as homeless within Jamestown, ND 58401. Thompson, a white male, stands at 5′ 08″ tall, weighs 230 pounds, with blue eyes and gray hair.
According to authorities, Thompson has been designated a high-risk assessment by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee, Office of the Attorney General, due to the severity of his offense.
Thompson’s offense dates back to an incident of Gross Sexual Imposition in which he forcibly entered the home of a 42-year-old Bismarck woman unknown to him. Using physical force and brandishing a knife, Thompson coerced the victim out of the shower, inflicting injuries, and forcing her to engage in an oral sexual act. The incident led to his conviction on October 20, 1992, in Burleigh County District Court. He received a sentence of 10 years, with 3 years suspended, and 125 days credit, followed by supervised probation.
It’s important to note that Thompson is not currently wanted by law enforcement, having completed the sentence imposed by the court. However, the notification aims to prioritize public safety without instilling undue fear within the community. The Jamestown Police Department emphasizes that the dissemination of this information should not be misused to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender. Any attempts to harass or intimidate Thompson or his associates will be met with legal action.
Printed handouts containing Thompson’s demographic information are available at the Jamestown Police Department for those seeking further details.
