VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) It was an inauspicious start for the Valley City Shootout Thursday.
As gametime approached, WAPA lost a power tower south of Valley City, leading to a two-hour power disruption, leading teams and fans to wait at the Hi-Liner Activity Center for the start of a four-game slate.
In the end, three games were played at the HAC, with on girls game shifting to the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse at Valley City State.
As disruptive as the power outage was for Valley City, the Hi-Liner girls were equally disruptive to Turtle Mountain.
Drew Potratz tallied 14 points, with Dacota Potratz and Tesa Olson each adding 10, as the Hi-Liners rolled to their fourth win of the season, downing the Braves 60-40. The Hi-Liners broke back into the win column after dropping their final game before the Christmas break to Devils Lake.
Other girls games saw Four Winds-Minnewauken run past Killdeer 75-25, and Central Cass stop Dunseith 69-22, both games played at the HAC.
At VCSU, Bottineau topped Shiloh Christian 60-56 in girls play.
Play continues Friday and Saturday. The Hi-Liner girls face Four Winds-Minnewauken at 11:00 AM, and the Hi-Liner boys play Dunseith to follow.
