VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Across the country, for the past three school years, student daily attendance has been a growing concern for school districts.

Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson said, like many others, witnessed more and more students absent from school following the global shutdown in 2020. At the end of last school year, we made it a priority to address student daily attendance and take a more proactive approach in partnering with students, staff, and parents to improve our student daily attendance in the school district. We believe student attendance is critical for our students’ academic success, social development, health, and overall well-being. Below is a chart highlighting the percentage of our students in school each day (average daily attendance) from last year to the first semester of this school year.

Thank you to our parents for supporting our efforts to emphasize the importance of attendance with our students. We all know that our parents are the ultimate decision makers if students will or won’t be in attendance at school. Let’s make it a goal to have better than 95% student daily attendance in the second semester of this school year.
