HONOLULU, HI – A surge by the Jimmies was met by another from fifth-ranked Carroll (MT) Sunday and Jamestown dropped its Hawaiian opener.
Jamestown fell 58-51 to Carroll in the first of the Jimmies’ two games at the Hoops in Hawaii Holiday Classic at the Hawaii Convention Center.
Carroll (8-2), in defeating Jamestown for the fourth straight time, led 14-2 after one quarter, as the Jimmies (5-6) were held to just one field goal in the first 10 minutes.
However, Jamestown outscored Carroll 18-6 in the second quarter to force a 20-20 halftime tie.
The Jimmies were down just 37-34 after three quarters, but Carroll began the final frame with a 12-2 run and Jamestown never came closer than five points.
Kate Cordes led the Jimmies with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kia Tower had 13 with nine rebounds.
Jamie Pickens scored 16 with 12 rebounds for Carroll.
On Monday, the Jimmies will face another nationally-ranked team, #16 Providence (MT), at 4:00 PM CT.
