Oakes, ND (Newsdakota.com) – The Rebels of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier did enough to get their first win of the season against the Oakes Tornadoes to get the 46-24 victory in a game much closer than the score suggests.

The game started with no scoring till almost 5 minutes into the first quarter as both teams defenses were stifling. Oakes being in a 2-3 zone would collapse around any Rebel player who tried to break through the lane and EKM in a man on defense attacked the Tornadoes offense at all times preventing any chance of a drive to the net. The score after the first half would be the Rebels up 18-10 with neither team shooting particularly well as the defenses pushed everything to the perimeter.

The second half saw more of the same as Oakes cut the lead down to 5 before being stifled and finally beaten in the 4th quarter as EKM finally started to get through the Oakes defense to drive up the score. The Tornadoes still struggled against the Rebels defense all the way to the end. The final score was 46-24.

According to unofficial stats, the leading scorer for the Rebels was Elli Lloyd with 14 and the leading scorer for the Tornadoes was Brianna Schmitz with 8 who also earned the Bank North Player of the Game.

The Rebels get their first win and will now play in the Jamestown Shootout this weekend. Meanwhile Oakes gets handed their first loss of the season and will take on Griggs-Midkota in a Non Region game on Thursday in Griggs.
