The Jamestown High School volleyball team took on Bismarck High School today at 5 p.m. in the Semifinals of the WDA Regional Tournament. Jamestown is the #1st seed in the tournament and Bismarck High School is the #4th seed. Bismarck High had to defeat Dickinson yesterday to get to the Semifinals while Jamestown defeated Bismarck St. Mary’s.

Jamestown would start off the match strong with a 7-1 lead. The Demons would fight back though to make it 14-9. Jamestown would dominate the rest of the opening set winning the match 25-9 convincingly. Bismark High would not go away so easily though. Jamestown would get out to a 3-1 lead before the Demons would take back the lead and hold it until the Blue Jays would take the lead back at 13-12. Bismarck High again would respond swiftly going back up 14-13. Again, another tie would ensue at 18-18. The Demons would lead the rest of the way going up 23-20 and then winning the 2nd set 25-21.

In the 3rd set, the action was much like the 2nd set in terms of competitiveness.  Jamestown again following their gameplan got up 4-1 to start the set. Then Bismarck High would retaliate and regain the lead 5-4. They would hold the lead until the Blue Jays tied it up at 11-11 on a Kendyl Anderson point. Jamestown would go on a 6-0 run to make it 16-11 before the Demons would stop the bleeding at 16-12. Jamestown would go up 17-12 before Bismark High would make a comeback and regain the lead 19-17. A timeout was called by head coach of the Blue Jays Sara Hegerle to settle the group. Out of the timeout Addison Marker would get a kill to cut the deficit to 1 before Tayla Anderson of the Demons would respond and make it 18-20. Marker again got another kill and would cut the deficit to 1 to make the score 19-20. Edie Hegerle would set up Makenna Nold for a spike and kill that would tie the matchup at 20-20. Leah Trumbauer would score twice and make the score 22-22 after a quick back and forth. Edie Hegerle would quickly tap the ball over the net catching the Demons off guard and making the score 23-22 in favor of Jamestown. Nold would get the next point to make it 24-22. The Demons would score once more before Edie Hegerle would get the final kill of the set and Jamestown would go up 2-1 winning 25-23.

 

In the 4th set Jamestown operated similarly to the 1st set. The Blue Jays would get out to a 7-1 lead and then would extend that lead out to 18-5 with a dominating offensive performance from the Blue Jays. Jamestown would get out of the set with a 25-15 win. Jamestown advances to the finals in the WDA Regional Tournament and will face off against Bismark Century at 4 p.m.
