NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Mustangs of South Border never trailed as they go on to defeat the Rockets of New Rockford/Sheyenne/Maddock Saturday afternoon 32-28 in the 9-man semifinals. South Border will make their way to the Dakota Bowl championship at the Fargodome on Friday, November 10th for the first time in program history, they will meet the North Prairie Cougars as they beat Westhope/Newburg/Glenburn 54-36 in the other semifinal. SB improves to 12-0, NRSM suffers their first loss of the season and end their season at 10-1 overall.
The Mustangs scored the first two touchdowns of the game, then the Rockets scored two of their own to tie the game at 16 all with about five minutes left in the first half. South Border would get another score before halftime with just eight seconds left when QB Berkley Frantz connected with WR Kaden Bader for an eight-yard touchdown catch in the endzone, giving them the lead 24-16 at the break. The Mustangs would score their last touchdown of the game with about seven minutes remaining in the third quarter when runningback Cole Stock ran in from 32 yards out. The Rockets would score the next two TD’s but unable to convert on their two-point conversions.
South Border and North Prairie will play the first game of four championship games on Friday in the Dakota Bowl at the Fargodome, starting at 9am.
