Kindred, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes couldn’t get past the quarterfinals in the 11A Football Playoffs falling to #2 Kindred by a final score of 39-6.

The game started on the wrong foot for the Tornadoes as a fumble on the first play of the game resulted in Kindred starting in excellent field position down at Oakes’ 25 yard line. The Viking’s would eventually find their way into the end zone after a 6 yard run by quarterback Jakes Starcevic with 8:36 left. Oakes would respond by going on a long drive working their way into the Viking’s red zone. The drive would come to a halt as the Vikings stuffed them on a couple plays on 3rd and 4th and goal.

The Vikings would be the next team to find the end zone after marching down the field after the turnover on downs. They made it down to the 32 yard line when Starcevic would go on a 32 yard run to the end zone to make it 12-0 with 8:16 left. After a couple 3 and outs by both teams Kindred had the ball late and started marching up the field however a bad pass allowed Blayson Dolney to intercept the ball and give Oakes a shot at getting points with 2:03 left. The drive wouldn’t last that long however as Dolney would overthrow Trey Skoglund and get intercepted by Gabe Whipple with about a minute left. The Vikings would score on the following drive on a 14 yard pass to Miles Stroh to give Kindred the 19-0 lead with .2 seconds left on the half.

The Vikings would come out firing in the second half and march down the field to score on a 3 yard touchdown run by Tyson Johnson to extend the lead to 26-0. The Vikings defense also prevented the Tornadoes from going anywhere as they would clog up the middle and outsides to prevent Mario Garza and Skoglund from getting much more than 2-3 yard gains. Kindred would score again with 20 seconds left in the quarter on a 1 yard touchdown run by Brock Johnson to make in it 33-0.

The Tornadoes would finally find the endzone in the 4th quarter after an exceptionally long drive was capped off by a Garza 7 yard touchdown run as he dived over defenders into the endzone with 7:38 left to make the game 33-6. The Vikings would score once more this time on a 3 yard reception to Luke Starcevic to make it 39-6 with 3:47 left to win the game.

The Vikings advance to the semifinals for the 2nd time in 3 years where they will take on Langdon/Edmore/Munich for the right to play in the Fargo Dome.

The Tornadoes season comes to an end with a record of 7-3. The Players of the Game were the Oakes Seniors.
