CITY (NewsDakota.com) – A close wrestling dual fell the way of Wahpeton on Tuesday night as the Huskies edged Valley City by one point, 34-33 during an EDC dual at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.

Each team won seven matches during the dual. Valley City had four pins and three decisions, and Wahpeton had four pins, one technical fall and two decisions to pick up the victory. Wahpeton improves to 3-1 in EDC duals. Valley City drops to 2-3 in the conference.

Logan Erlandson at 113 pounds, Jakob Ashline at 120, and Reed Beckman at 145 all recorded decisions for Valley City. Four Hi-Liners won their matches by pin: Mark Miller at 138 pounds, Shane Undem at 160, Zach Doty at 170 and Jordan Magnuson at 182.

The two teams split a pair of match-ups that involved two ranked wrestlers. At 145 pounds, No. 2 Reed Beckman won a 6-4 decision for Valley City over No. 4 Wyatt Meyer. At 285 pounds, Wahpeton’s Tyler Ringdahl won a 3-1 decision over Valley City’s Steven Horner. Ringdahl is ranked No. 6 in the state and Horner is No. 4.

Up next: The Hi-Liners are back on the mats Friday night when they host Grand Forks Red River (4-0 EDC), one of two undefeated teams remaining in EDC duals.
