The University of Jamestown traveled to Sioux City, Iowa to face the Morningside University Mustangs. Jamestown before the contest went 2-1 at home the last 3 weeks, getting wins against Doane and Mount Marty University. Morningside would enter the contest 7-0 and ranked #3 in the NAIA Coaches Top 25.

Both sides would have big plays back and forth starting even in the 1st quarter. Morningside would get the first score of the day knocking in a 35-yard field goal courtesy of Bryson Wilke with 11:52 left in the first quarter. The Jimmies would respond with a touchdown on a 58-yard pass from quarterback John Grann to running back Carlos Julian on a wheel route. They would take the lead 8-3 with a 2-point conversion on a rush from Gage Solano with 9:27 left in the first quarter. Lennx Brown who had a huge day on the ground for the Mustangs would break off a 72-yard touchdown run giving Morningside the lead 10-8 with 6:30 left in the opening quarter.

Just 25 seconds into the 2nd quarter Morningside would score again with Brown throwing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Cole, the Mustangs would lead 16-8.  The Jimmies would respond quickly with a 10-play, 45-yard touchdown drive that ended in a 2-yard touchdown catch from Micah Madyun on a pass from Grann. Aanon Peterson’s extra point attempt was good and Jamestown trailed 15-16 with 12:25 left in the 2nd quarter.  Things slowed down for 5 minutes until Morningside’s Jamal Jones got a 67-yard pick 6 giving the Mustangs a 23-15 lead and that would be the score going into halftime.

Jamestown would get the first score of the 3rd quarter with 4:40 left when Zachariah Hammet would finish off a 6-play, 46-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Jamestown would trail by 1 point again 22-23. Momentum shifted again when Jamestown controlled the lead with 13:24 left in the ball game, Grann would pass 10 yards to receiver Ryan Collins for a touchdown on a 9-play 80-yard drive that took up only 3:20 off the clock.  The Jimmies couldn’t hold on late though as Morningside would respond with 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Brown would score both touchdowns for the Mustangs late, the first one an 8-yard run with 9:01 left and the 2nd a 5-yard run with 3:42 left giving Morningside a 38-29 lead that would end up as the final score.

The Jimmies are now 2-6 on the season and will be back on the road next weekend as they head to Mitchell, SD for a date with Dakota Wesleyan. That game will kick off at 1 p.m.
