Gerald “Gary” Schuler, 80, Sibley, ND, passed away at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, ND on October 7, 2023. There will be a celebration of Gary’s life at the community building in Dazey, ND at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2023. He will be laid to rest in the Dazey Cemetery. Gerald “Gary” Marvin Schuler was born September 9, 1943, in Valley City, ND, to Harold and Josephine (Dahl) Schuler. He grew up in the Dazey, ND area and attended school in Dazey. As a young man, Gary joined the US Army. He did his basic training in Arkansas and was stationed in Germany.
On February 8, 1964, he married Jacklyn “Jackie” Hare in Webster, SD. They began their life together in Sibley and Dazey. He ran the Standard Oil stations in both Dazey and Hannaford before moving to Valley City where he worked. They moved back to Dazey where they operated the café among other things.
In 1992, Gary and Jackie returned to Sibley where they ran the resort with his aunt and uncle. Gary was kept busy with the resort, but in his spare time he did some woodworking. Another thing he enjoyed was decorating for the holidays. He was a member of the American Legion.
Gary is survived by his wife, Jackie; sons, Scott and Mike (Typhanny); son-in-law, Mark (Lisa) Haugen; grandchildren, Lindsey (Josh) Averill, Macey Schuler, Magen Haugen, Trevor Haugen, and Jaden Schuler; brothers, Vernon and Don (Joy); sister, Nancy Hagglund-Morgan; brothers-in-law, Jim (Colleen) Hare, Jon (Sandy) Hare, Gary (Darlene) Hare, and Alan Quick; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff; daughter, Vicki Haugen; and 3 sisters-in-law.
