Florence Maurer, 102, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Monday morning, September 25, 2023 at SMP Health – Ave Maria, Jamestown.

Florence Catherine Plinski was born December 9, 1920 on the family farm in Fried Township, six miles east and one mile south of Pingree, ND, the daughter of Michael and Hazel (Diesem) Plinski. Florence’s mother died October 30, 1924, just prior to her 4th birthday and was raised by her grandmother and later her aunt in Medina, ND.

On April 4, 1945, Florence was married to Charles Dwight Maurer at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown. They lived in Jamestown until her husband was transferred with the Northern Pacific Railroad to Fargo, ND in 1953, and then they moved back to Jamestown in 1971.

In 2016, Florence moved from her home to the Heritage Centre in Jamestown, and in 2022, at 101 years old, moved to SMP Health – Ave Maria.

Florence was a member of St. James Basilica, St. James Tabernacle Society and Immaculate Conception Circle. Florence professed a strong devotion to her Catholic faith and devoted her time to her church community and to her family. Florence could be heard saying, “There is nothing more powerful than the power of prayer.” Aside from her love of God and her Catholic faith, she enjoyed sewing, bingo, and playing cards – especially pinochle.

Florence is survived by five children: Charles, Indian Wells, CA, James (Judy Goff), Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Jacqueline, Orange, CA, Joan, Wahpeton, ND, and Mary Jane (David Ingstad), Bismarck, ND; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.D. in 2006; four brothers, David, Michael, James, and Arthur Plinski; and one grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial – 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Visitation – One hour before the service at the church.

Interment – Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.
