OAKES, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The RV Oakes Tornadoes picked up the win on Friday August 18th to kick off the season. They would beat the Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm Thunder by a final score of 33-30.

The game would start slow for both teams as neither team was able to get anything going on offense for the opening quarter of the game until the Tornadoes were able to get down to the endzone off of some great runs from Mario Garza. He would then cap off the drive with a 4 yard touchdown run to give Oakes the lead. They would fail to convert for 2 pts making it 6-0 after a quarter of play.

Oakes would explode in the 2nd quarter of play scoring the majority of their points. It would start with a 3 yard Garza TD run and a 2pt conversion to make it 14-0. However EEK would not be go quietly into the night as Jacob Nitschke went to Joseph Kramlich through the air for a 31 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-6. Oakes would strike back with their own passing play as well with Blayson Dolney going through the air to Max Walock for a 31 yard touchdown strike. The Walock-Dolney connection would be their once more in the quarter for a 11 yard touchdown pass to the endzone to end the half 27-6.

The second half would start with a Walock 36 yard catch to make it 33-6. Oakes would then move away from their starters after the 3rd quarter. The Thunder would begin to get their offense moving in the 4th quarter. It would start with a 31 yard touchdown run for Damien Carlson with a 2pt conversion to make it 33-14. On their next drive Drew Thrope would make a touchdown run from 38 yards out to make it 33-22 after the 2 point conversion. The coup de grace on the EEK offense was a 55 yard catch-run from Toby Duncan to make it 33-30. However that would be all EEK would get as Oakes would stuff them on the next drive.

The Bank North Player of the Game was given to Max Walock.
