VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) A bit more than a week before the start of school, Hi-Liner Athletics is down a high-profile coach.
Ty Terry announced on social media today that he will be moving into a basketball camp organizer position in Bismarck, relocating there with his family.
Terry confirmed to KOVC Sports Monday afternoon that he will be working with the Bismarck St. Mary’s school district as a basketball tutor, long-term sub, and possibly in a coaching role.
“I just came to my decision this morning,” Terry said when reached by KOVC. “I haven’t decided if I’m going to coach or not. It can be done, but it’s a large time issue.”
Terry added his job will be teaching basketball at St. Mary’s, rather than coaching it. He said his job will allow him to coach multiple levels of kids instead of just varsity only.
As of Monday afternoon, Terry had not resigned his positions with Valley City Public Schools, which include an academic support position as well as head boys basketball coach.
Josh Johnson, Valley City Superintendent said the biggest concern was the academic position.
“We need that filled on August 23rd. That will be our top issue. Our coaching positions are at will positions, and we will start the process on that upon receiving a resignation from Ty.”
Terry, a former Mr. Basketball for Valley City High School, was introduced as the new boys basketball coach this past fall. Johnson said there were no issues with his coaching.
“The kids loved him. The parents and community were very supportive, and I felt that, with a move to three divisions, there would be a lot of opportunities for Ty in the future,” said Johnson.
