Wahpeton and Valley City exchanged blows for six innings as the score was 10-7 in favor of the visitors as the game headed into the top of the seventh inning. Valley City in the bottom of the sixth struck for 3 runs to cut the deficit in half and was looking to escape the seventh with some much needed momentum. Through the first two batters it looked like Valley City would have a chance for a late comeback until Wahpeton rallied for four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to seal the 14-7 win.

Both teams combined for 28 hits on the day as both starters would be knocked out before the sixth inning with Valley City calling upon Carver Pederson for over four innings of relief. Up until the seventh inning the difference in the game were the runs Valley City gave up on passed balls and errors with close to half of Wahpeton’s 10 runs at the time being freebees.

For Valley City offensively the bats of Corbin Powell and Robert Fischer continued to shine as the pair combined to go 5/5 with a pair of walks and five RBI’s between the two of them. Leadoff man Gavin Gerhardt also chipped in with a pair of hits on the day.

The next home game for Valley City was supposed to be this Sunday but those games have since been moved to a later date with the next home game now being July 6th against Casselton.
