JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was a soggy weekend for most of the region.

Much-needed rain started falling on Friday and continued throughout most of Saturday in a big area of central North Dakota.

The rain was record-setting according to the National Weather Service in Bismarck. It reported that both the Bismarck and Jamestown airports reported precipitation records for a 24-hour period on Saturday. At the Bismarck airport 1.79 inches was reported, breaking a record of 1.39 inches that was set in 1968. The Jamestown airport reported 2.79 inches, which shattered the record of 1.82 inches set in 1966.

Some of the two-day totals for Friday and Saturday include 4.92 inches 7 miles northeast of Ashley, 4.80 inches 8 miles southwest of Edmunds, and 4.75 inches 2 miles south-southwest of Jamestown. The rain body sat mainly in the south and rotated north and east.

According to the National Weather Service, the rain returns Monday afternoon after a brief period of dry weather. We should expect chances for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms for the next four days, with the highest chances for widespread precipitation and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon.
