The story of the game once again for Valley City came down to fielding errors, as the eight errors on the day allowed three unearned runs to come across to score as Devils Lake came back to win 6-3.
Valley City jumped out to an early two run lead after a throwing error by Devils Lake allowed two runs to come across to score after the ball escaped underneath the first baseman’s glove. After Devils Lake pushed one across in the 4th inning Valley City would respond with one of their own to take a 3-1 lead into the fifth.
However, after that it would be five unanswered runs by Devils Lake as the Storm as they struck for 13 total hits after being held hitless for the first three innings. Parker Swanson would go 3-4 on the day for the Storm as he recorded on of the few RBI’s on the day as Valley City starter Max Mehus went all seven innings only allowing three earned runs.
With a strong head wind both teams were struggling to drive the ball but the best contact of the game came of the Valley City bat of Owen Struble who laced a two out RBI double. Robert Fischer would be the only other Royals hitter to record a hit today as Devils Lake starter got into the sixth inning before being relieved by Jackson Baeth who recorded the five-out save.
Next up for Valley City will be the Valley City Mid-Summer Classic Tournament this weekend that will run Friday through Sunday.
