post-60-baseball

The scoreboard ultimately didn’t not indicate how close this ballgame was between the Valley City Royals and the Kindred Vikings with the game being tied going into 6th inning. But ultimately a similar story played itself out on the diamond as six errors on the day allowed for Kindred to push across three unearned runs as the Vikings won 10-4.

Max Mehus went over 100 pitches on the day as he tried to carry his team through the remainder of the sixth after a valiant effort. However, he would be tagged for three runs after Kindred led off the bottom of the inning with a two run homerun and a double that eventually came across to score.

Offensively the Royals did a good job of consistently putting runners on base both through patience and through good swings. The best swing of all was a fourth inning homerun from Corbyn Powell to leadoff the inning which cut the deficit down to one run. Later in the fifth Valley City would take the lead before the Vikings tied it in the bottom half.

In the sixth Vikings pitcher Jack Wold would record his first 1-2-3, inning of the game which set the wheels in motion for what would be an inning to forget for Valley City. With a combination of great Kindred hitting and fielding miscues the Vikings put the game out of reach with a six run bottom of the sixth.

Next up for the Valley City Royals will be a doubleheader matchup tomorrow at home against the Fargo Bombers with game one set to begin at 5:30pm. Both of those games will be broadcasted on KOVC.
