VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) A furious comeback in the first game salvaged a split of the season-opening action for Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball.
Valley City plated nine runners in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 12-6 win over the West Fargo Vets in the first game of the season last night.
Max Mehus earned the win, finishing 3-4 at the dish, surrendering six runs on six hits, striking out three and walking three in six innings on the mound. Gavin Gerhardt finished 3-5, driving in a pair of runs. Will Schwehr, Broden Muske and Jack Samuelson also drove in a pair of runs each.
Post 60 fell to the Vets 9-2 in the nightcap. Valley City was limited to just three hits. Samuelson picked up a hit in three trips, driving in a run and also scored to lead the offensive effort.
Valley City plays at the Fargo Post 2 Jets Thursday night.
