WAHPETON, ND (KFGO) – Wahpeton Police say a 34-year-old man was shot Saturday afternoon.
Officers received a 911 call for a gunshot victim at 1358 12th St. N. in Wahpeton at around 4:35 pm Saturday, June 3rd. When officers responded, they found the 34-year-old man outside laying on the ground with a chest wound. The male was transported to St. Francis Medical Campus in Breckenridge, MN and later life-flighted to Fargo.
The male victim indicated he was shot by a family member at the residence. Wahpeton Police issued a shelter in place and evacuated residents of 1358 12th St N. They determined someone was still inside the apartment building and attempted to make contact.
Southern Valley SRT entered the apartment where they arrested 37-year-old Shawn Lee Lane for attempted murder and discharge of a firearm within city limits.
Wahpeton Police say this was an isolated incident and the public is in no danger.
They were assisted by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Police Department, Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office, SEMCA, North Dakota BCI and Southern Valley SRT.
