Alice (Gill) Wendel, 100, of Valley City, ND, formerly of Sanborn, ND, passed away on May 31, 2023, at SMP Health – St. Raphael in Valley City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 8, 2023, in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Valley City. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sanborn. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church. A prayer service beginning with the praying of the Rosary will start at 7:00.

Alice Mae Gill was born on January 29, 1923, at Oriska, ND, daughter of John and Maud Elizabeth (Semmens) Gill. She grew up in Weimer Township and attended grade school there. She graduated from Oriska High School in 1940. On October 14, 1942, she married Wilfred Wendel at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Oriska. She and her husband purchased land in Potter Township at Sanborn in 1945, they farmed there until retiring nearly 50 years later. In 1994, they moved to Valley City.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Sanborn) and a charter member of Circle 4 and a member of Christian Mothers. When they moved to Valley City, they became members of St. Catherine Catholic Church. The couple were winter parishioners of Holy Cross Church in Mesa, AZ for many years.

Alice was a longtime member of the Valley City Eagles Auxiliary. She loved to bowl and earned several trophies. Her proudest achievement in her bowling career was to win the Eagles Tri State Singles Tournament in 1974. She was an avid reader, enjoyed word search puzzles and loved to play cards and Keno. She did some embroidery, cross stitch, and latch hooking. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy of her life. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Gerald (Karen) Wendel; daughters, Darlene Noecker and Kathy Carlson; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Mary Rasmusson; 3 half-sisters; and 4 half-brothers.
Alice will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
