NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Four games were played in New Rockford on Monday for the opening day of the 2023 Region 3 Baseball tournament, here are the results:
Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 11 Sheyenne/New Rockford 1, 6 innings
Blaze Isaacson hit a 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth to win it for the Loboes, winning by 10-run rule. The number one seed and two-time defending champs, LLM, is now 10-1 overall, fifth seeded SNR drops to 4-11 overall.
Carrington 12 Nelson County 2, 5 innings
Hudson Schmitz hit a sac fly to score Grady Shipman for the game winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning, also winning by 10-run rule. The number two seeded Cardinals are now 13-4 overall, sixth seeded NC drops to 4-12 overall.
Kidder County 11 Sheyenne-New Rockford (SNR) 6
The Kidder County Wolves scored 7 runs in the third inning and ended SNR 2023 season with an 11-6 victory. Jake Kartes went 2-4 and drove in 2 runs for the Wolves and starting pitcher Isaiah Oster went 4 innings to pick up the win allowing 3 runs (1 earned). The Blacksox outhit Kidder County 12-7 and Hayden Meier went 3-4 with an RBI. Connor Knatterud, Brody Weisenberger, and Alex Weisenberger all added 2 hits for SNR. The Blacksox season ends with a 4-12 record. Kidder County improved to 8-8 and will play at 3:00 tomorrow vs. South Border.
South Border 7 Nelson County/Midkota (NCM) 1
NCM scored there first and only run of the game in the top of the first inning on Landon Sundeen’s RBI sacrifice fly that scored Trae Lillehaugen. NCM had just 4 hits in the game. South Border (SB) answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the first on Parker Salwei’s 2 run single scoring Berkley Frantz and Ryken Salwei. Parker Salwei pitched a complete game for SB to get the win. Frantz went 4-4 with 3 runs and 3 stolen bases. Ryken Salwei went 2-2 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. NCM season ends with 4-13 overall record and SB improved to 5-6 overall and will play Kidder County at 3:00 tomorrow in an elimination game.
