ENDERLIN, ND (NewsDakota.com)  The big hit remained elusive for Oakes all day Saturday in Enderlin.

The Tornados stranded 10 runners, eight in scoring position, and were thrown out trying to score twice as Northern Cass eliminated Oakes from the post-season with a 5-1 decision at Hendrickson Field in Enderlin.

Jaguar defensive efforts were wild, and pitching erratic, committing six errors and walking nine Tornados, allowing Oakes opportunity after opportunity to do damage, with Oakes reaching scoring position in every inning but the second, sending multiple runners to scoring position in all innings but the second and seventh.

But James Throener was thrown out trying to score from third after an attempt to advance in a rundown on a poor throw from Jaguar catcher Jackson Hill in the first, and the play set a tone for the day.

Throener was again thrown out trying to score on a delayed double steal in the third, on a tight call at the plate.  Trainor made an aggressive, headfirst slide to the back corner of the dish, but was ruled out on a tag on his back that head coach Greg Dobitz questioned briefly, as the inning came to an end on the play.

Oakes left runners at second and third in the fourth, again in the fifth, left the bases loaded in the sixth, and put runners on first and second in the seventh, just before Jaguar centerfielder Matt Metzger reeled in a leaping catch against the fence to rob Tornado Max Walock on a shot to the deepest part of Hendrickson Field.

Northern Cass capitalized on Tornado defensive issues, scoring four unearned runs in the game.  Walock was saddled with the loss, giving up two unearned runs in the first inning.

Gaven Christianson scored Oakes’ lone run in the first, and finished 1-2 with a single and a run scored.  Trainor walked three times, while Brogan Roney finished 1-3.  Xavier Vossler and Deagen Roerick added hits as well.
