DICKINSON, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The one hurdle for Blue Jay softball the past two seasons has been getting past Dickinson. The two sides have battled in many one run score games that favored the Midgets at the end.

Not anymore.

Jamestown swept rival Dickinson on the road Friday night, securing a share of its first ever WDA regular season title in the process.

GAME ONE: Jamestown 4, Dickinson 2 (10 innings)

The Blue Jays trailed Dickinson 2-1 heading into the seventh inning and with two outs, scored the tying run on a Midget error. Katie Falk would hold Dickinson off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the seventh to send game one into extra innings.

Jamestown and Dickinson remained tied at two until the Blue Jays grabbed the lead for good with a two run 10th inning. Sophia Bond led off the 10th with a walk but was out at second on a fielders choice, putting Leah Trumbauer at first. Ella Falk doubled into left field in the next at bat, scoring Trumbauer all the way from first to give the Jays the lead.

After a Rylee Joseph single and a strikeout, K. Falk drove in her cousin Ella, giving Jamestown a 4-2 lead. Makenna Nold entered the circle in the 10th, striking out two batters to get the Blue Jays the victory. K. Falk struck out eight in nine innings of work, throwing 141 pitches.

GAME TWO: Jamestown 11, Dickinson 1 (Five innings)

Nold tossed a no-hitter in game two, providing the Blue Jays with a sweep of Dickinson.

Jamestown jumped in front of Dickinson with five runs in the first inning and the Blue Jays would cruise from there. Jamestown’s lone error defensively provided a run for Dickinson, but Nold would keep the damage to just one, striking out 10 total batters. The junior also had six RBIs at the plate. K. Falk picked up two RBIs in game two and E. Falk went 2-for-3.

The Blue Jays (24-8, 16-2) grabbed a share of the West Region Title with some help from Century, who defeated Minot 13-12 on Friday night. The Majettes (28-2, 16-2) will be the one seed in the WDA Tournament due to a tiebreaker. Jamestown, the #2 seed, will face the winner of Williston/Turtle Mountain, which will be played on Monday in Williston. The WDA Tournament starts Thursday in Dickinson.
