ENDERLIN, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes fell just short of achieving the comeback against the Oak Grove Grovers in the first game of the Region 1 Tournament. They would fall 3-2.

The game started well for the Tornadoes with Fletcher Willprecht making efficient work over the first three innings of the ball game, striking out five. Offensively the Tornadoes looked good as well. They would however leave the bases loaded in the 1st inning and strand a runner at 3rd in the 2nd inning. This would happen several times for the Tornadoes as they would strand a total of 9 runners on the day. Of which 6 were in scoring position with 1 out or less when they got to the bag.

The Grovers got the scoring started in the 4th inning when they would load the bases with no one out. Jon Asche would hit an infield single to score Greyson Dockter to make it 1-0. Willprecht would then strike out the next three. The Grovers would do the same thing again in the 5th inning. They would load the bases with no one out however this time before a run could be scored Willprecht struck out 2 before Asche would drive home 2 more runs with a single to left field. It would be a 3-0 game after 5.

The Tornadoes wouldn’t get on the board till the 7th inning when Michael Hoistad, Willprecht, and James Throener all reached with Throener driving Hoistad home. Willprecht would score on a Gavin Christian sac fly before Grover reliver Trey Hatfield struck out the last two to clinch the victory.

The winning pitcher was Greyson Dockter who went 5.1 IP giving up 4H, 4BB’s, and 5Ks. Trey Hatfield would get the save with 1.2  IP, 2H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB, and 3K’s.

The losing pitcherwould be Fletcher Willprecht who went 7.0 IP with 7H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB’s, and 12K’s.

The player of the game was Trey Hatfield for his stellar defensive play and great night at the plate goin 2/4 with a RBI.

The Tornadoes fall to the bottom bracket where they are in danger of elimination. Their next game will be Saturday May 20th at 1:00 PM when they will take on Northern Cass. Pregame will start around 12:50 on 1220AM, 100.3, 95.9FM KDDR.
