JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council had a special meeting on Monday to discuss the emergency declaration issued by Mayor Dwaine Heinrich regarding a failed stormwater pipe.
The Council approved a resolution to affirm and extend the emergency declaration. According to Mayor Heinrich, the declaration would only last for 7 days and the problem will take longer than that to fix. The council extending the declaration means that means it will last until the stormwater system is fixed.
Stormwater run-off and flooding caused the failure of a 96-inch stormwater pipe that is located south of 25th Street Southwest, east of 8th Avenue Southwest.
City Engineer Travis Dillman says the sinkhole at the site near Applebees is about 12 to 14 feet deep. Safety fencing is placed around the hole. Dillman said the pipe will be replaced.
