VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) The final stretch of the regular season begins this week, and both teams have key games remaining.
Hi-Liner baseball plays four times this week. They travel to Grand Forks Central Tuesday, host West Fargo Sheyenne Wednesday and Devils Lake Thursday, and travel to Fargo Davies Saturday.
Valley City must finish in the top eight in the conference standings to qualify for the post-season. There are five teams with three or two wins in the Eastern Dakota Conference, all fighting for a spot in the tournament. Valley City has one league win, and will face three of those teams in the bottom half this week.
The Hi-Liner softball team is tied for fifth in the EDC standings, and have league games with West Fargo and Grand Forks Central remaining. The Packers are 13-1 in league play, Central is 4-8.
With the first round at home sites, Valley City is two games out of a home game in league play headed into the week, chasing 10-6 Fargo North.
