JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High School baseball team hit seven home runs over the course of two games in a doubleheader sweep of Mandan Tuesday night at Jack Brown Stadium.
GAME ONE: JAMESTOWN 17, MANDAN 2 (FIVE INNINGS)
The Blue Jays hit three home runs in the first inning alone in a game one blowout of the Braves. Payton Hochhalter launched a three-run homer, Carson Orr hit a two-run blast, and Jackson Walters hit a grand slam in a 10-run first inning for the Jays. Ethan Gall and Hochhalter kept the party rolling in the second inning as the two seniors each hit three-run homers. Jamestown led 16-0 after two innings and cruised the rest of the way behind five stellar frames on the hill from Orr. The Blue Jays tallied 13 hits and left just two runners on base in game one. Orr picked up the victory, going all five innings, allowing five hits.
GAME TWO: JAMESTOWN 13, MANDAN 2 (SIX INNINGS)
Mandan jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in game two, but a Jackson Walters two-run blast in the bottom of the first gave the Jays the lead for good in game two. Walters drove in three runs in the first two innings and Max Fronk had a pair of RBIs as Jamestown led 6-1 after two. The Braves scratched across a run in the top of the fifth, only for the Blue Jays to respond with three more runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. In the sixth with the score at 11-2, Hochhalter hit his third home run of the day, another out to right field, giving Jamestown a mercy rule walk-off win.
Jamestown racked up 11 hits in game two and once again left just two runners on base. Thomas Newman picked up the win on the bump, going all six innings while striking out five Mandan batters. Walters drove in five runs in game two as Jamestown scored 29 runs and tallied 24 hits in the doubleheader.
