VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) Hi-Liner track and field qualified two girls distance events and a boys and girls relay at the Packer Relays in West Fargo Friday.
Reagan Berg and Greta Goven both punched their tickets to state in the 400-meter run, with Berg finishing fourth (1:01.43) and Goven fifth (1:01.54) in the event.
Layni Bakalar, Laityn Didier, Kadie Kocka, and Karina Olson qualified for the 400-meter relay in a fifth place (52.05) finish, while the unit of Parker Jacobson, Wyatt Friestad, Derek Shape, and Aiden Jacobson qualified for the state meet in the boys 400-meter relay event, earning a sixth-place (45.18) finish.
Valley City claimed two championships, one that counts, and another that was always a crowd favorite.
The counter came in the girls 3200-meter relay, with Berg and Greta Goven joining Brynn Lueck and Cadence Fetsch to claim the title at 9:55.60, the only team to break the 10-minute mark.
The other title game when the boys that throw banded together to run a sub-50 second throwers relay. Dylan Hunt, Scot Rohde, Noah Paulson, and Kaleb McClaflin ran a 400-meter Throwers Relay, an event where teams designate their competitors in the shotput, discus, and javelin, competitors not typically known for their sprinting skills. They finished in 49.15, which would have finished ahead of a true 400-meter relay team in that event.
Rounding out the boys side, Hunt placed fifth in the javelin, and Koye Grebel ran a seventh-place 1600-meter run.
In girls competition, Berg, Lueck, and Goven were joined by Sydnee Ingstad to finish second in the 1600-meter run. Olson added a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, while Kocka added a fifth-place finish in pole vault.
Jovi Borg finished fifth in javelin, and Dacota Potratz placed eight in high jump.
The next scheduled action for Valley City is May 13th in Fargo
