Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington Cardinal’s finally played on their home field in the 2023 spring baseball season and scored 14 runs and collected 14 hits to drop Sheyenne-New Rockford (SNR) 14-4 in six innings. Jack Erickson finished the contest in the bottom of the sixth with a three run walk off homerun over the left center field fence. Erickson finished the game going 3-4 with 5 RBI, run, hit by pitch, and 1 stolen base. Kael Kovar also had three hits, going 3-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI, and added 4 stolen bases. Josh Bickett was the third Cardinal hitter to collect three hits going 3-3 with a pair of stolen bases, run, and a base on balls. Corbin Clifton also had a multi hit game with a 2-4 showing, scored 2 runs, and 1 RBI. Tate Wolsky was 1-2 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, and walked twice. The Cardinals scored 2 runs in the first inning, 3 runs in the second, 2 runs in the third, 3 runs in the fourth, 1 run in the fifth, and the three run sixth to finish the game. Hudson Schmitz was the winning pitcher for the Cards. Schmitz pitched 4 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned), 5 hits, and struck out 5 SNR batters.

Connor Knatterud went 2-2 with 2 runs scored, and reached base twice via base on balls. Lucas Yri, Brody Weisenburger, and Easton Simon all added 1 hit for the Black Sox. SNR dropped to 1-7 overall and in Region 3 play and Carrington improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in Region 3. Carrington will travel to Mayville on Friday to play a non region contest with Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg at 4:30.
