The funeral service for Deloris Ross, age 99, of Kathryn, ND will be 10 am Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kathryn, ND. Visitation will be Monday, May 8 from 5-7pm with a prayer service at 7pm at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, ND. Visitation will continue one hour before the funeral service. Burial will be in Waldheim Cemetery, rural Kathryn. She passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo, ND.
Deloris Arline Ross was born in rural Kathryn on October 19, 1923 to Severin and Turina (Helgeson) Mikkelson. She attended school and graduated from Kathryn. She married Clarence Ross on December 10, 1944 at the home of Clarence’s brother, Walter and Effie Ross in Poulsbo, WA.
Deloris worked at Boeing in Seattle, WA for a few years. They moved to Kathryn in 1945 where she resided for 77 ½ years. She cooked at the Kathryn School for a number of years and then also worked at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, for a number of years. She was very compassionate with the residents. She was known for giving perms and pin curls to the ladies in the area.
Her passion was making lefsa with her daughter, Judy. She had “LEFSA” on her license plate. She was also known for making her wonderful donuts and delivering them. Her grandchildren called her “Grandma Donut”.
Deloris had a strong faith and was very active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kathryn. She loved quilting with the church ladies, and she hemmed quilts by hand in her home. She enjoyed playing cards, shaking dice, playing bingo and many road trips with her friend, Ruth Huus. The coffee was always on at her house along with a fresh baked treat.
Deloris is survived by her children Gary and Judy Ross, Dennis and Judy Holmgren, Dean and Deb Ross, Steven and Vickie Ross, and Jaci Haas and Wanda Schwab, all of Valley City; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; her sister, Jean Lenox of Everett, WA; sister-in-law, Rita Mikkelson of Mandan, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; brothers, Henry, Vern and Darwin; sisters, Gertha, Martha, Myrtis and Lillie.
