VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Librarians across the state breathed a sigh of relief after North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum vetoed a Senate bill that would have charged a librarian with a class B misdemeanor, jail time and a fine for willfully displaying sexually explicit materials deemed offensive in places children visit.

Valley City Barnes County Library Director Anita Tulp had this reaction to Governor Burgum’s veto.

The North Dakota 2023 Legislative Session ended Sunday, April 30th after being in session for 75 days. Under North Dakota law, legislators can meet for a maximum of 80 days every other year. Lawmakers decided to set aside the remaining five day’s in case they need resolve any upcoming issues in the state.
