VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com) It was another strong showing for Valley City tennis as they rolled to a victory over Fargo North on Tuesday.

The Hi-Liners picked up their second win in as many days taking down the Spartans 8-1 in an Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) matchup.

Junior Breck Sufficool fought through a tough first set, coming back to win the last two sets to pick up the win in number one singles defeating Julia Puhl 5-7, 6-2, 10-2. Freshmen Kailee Nielson and Georgia Zaun won at three and four singles with Abby Redfearn and Skye Nielson closing out a strong singles showing for the Hi-Liners with wins in singles five and six.

The lone loss for for the Hi-Liners came in singles two, with Olivia Ingstad falling to to Lizzie Hardie 6-3, 3-6, 13-11 in a three set thriller.

On the doubles side it was all Hi-Liners as they swept past the Spartans with the team of Sufficool and Ingstad defeating  Puhl and Hardie in three sets, Nielson and Zaun defeating Taragos and Burris in two, and Redfearn and Thomsen defeating Espinoza and Miller in two.

Head coach Matt Nielson credited Tuesday’s victory to his team’s willingness to listen to their coaches and their ability to make in-game adjustments. “We lost some sets today by trying to out hit our opponents.  At set break, our players listened to coaching and started focusing on shaping their shots for consistency and keeping the ball in to include resetting points.”

The Hi-Liners will host Fargo Davies on Thursday.
