CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The VCSU men’s basketball team was upset on the road Tuesday night, losing to a one-win Johnson and Wales team in Denver, Colo.
VCSU led 36-27 at halftime, but Johnson and Wales stormed back in the second half to claim a 74-69 victory. The win was just the second this season for Johnson and Wales. VCSU, ranked No. 15 in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, drops to 9-3 and has their five-game winning streak snapped.
Sekani Milligen led the Vikings with 31 points in the loss. Aaron Duske added 11 points.
On the women’s side, though, VCSU continued its roll Tuesday. The Viking women won their 10th straight non-exhibition game, trouncing Johnson and Wales 78-38.
The No. 17-ranked women had four players score in double figures, led by 12 from Sierra Even and 11 from Brittany Lehner. Alyssa Hummel and Katelyn Ralston each scored 10.
VCSU’s women are now 10-1 this season, the only setback coming in the opening game of the year against defending national champion Northwestern.
VCSU’s women will go to Naples, Fla. for a pair of games Dec. 28 and 29. The Viking men go to California for the Whittier College Tournament on Dec. 29 and 30.
Both teams are back home again for a doubleheader on Jan. 4 against Minnesota-Morris.
