CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) On Monday, Valley City Police Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson encouraged the commission to hold off moving forward with the transition of the 9-1-1 Public Service Answering Point system back to Barnes County until they find out what direction to take in moving the aging equipment.
On Tuesday, Barnes County Commission President Eldred Knutson expressed frustration with the city in the transition process.
County and city officials met today with a representative of the North Dakota Association of Counties to get input on the best option concerning the existing 9-1-1 system or future equipment purchases. Knutson said there are several options available for the county. He also added that transfer of 9-1-1 funds back to county control is set for January first.
Earlier this month the Barnes County commission voted to push back the take over date until July of 2013 when the tentative contract ends with the city. The city has supervised and employed 9-1-1 dispatchers over the last 20 years.
