ABERDEEN, S.D. (jimmiepride.com)– The Jimmie softball team picked up its first conference wins of the season on Friday, sweeping Concordia (Neb.) 6-5 and 7-2.

The victories even UJ’s overall record at 15-15 and improve their conference record to 2-6.

Game One: UJ 6, CUNE 5 (8 innings)

Ally Battistoni scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the eighth as Jamestown rallied from a 5-2 deficit.

Maddie Spaeth‘s double scored Sunny Halsey to make it 5-3, and after Megan Neiles singled to put runners on the corners, Battistoni hit a triple to right center field to tie the game at 5-5.

CUNE pushed home three runs in their half of the eighth while recording four of their eight hits in the game. The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 before scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Samarah Martinez and McKenzie Lefebvre had back-to-back run-scoring hits for the Jimmies in the first. Lefevbre went 2-for-3 and six other players had a hit.

Hailey Schaefer (3-1) got credit for the win. Sunny Halsey started in the circle and struck out nine batters in 7 2/3 innings.

Game Two: UJ 7, CUNE 2

Five unearned runs in the third inning helped the Jimmies complete the sweep with a 7-2 win.

Three errors and a passed ball doomed the Bulldogs as Jamestown posted its highest scoring inning since March 29, when the Jimmies had seven in the seventh inning at Presentation (S.D.)

Abby Blair and McKenzie Lefebvre were credited with RBIs while Maddie Spaeth and Megan Neiles scored on errors and Gentrey Turin came home on a passed ball.

Lefebvre put UJ on the board with a RBI double in the first, and Samarah Martinez drove in an insurance run with a single in the sixth.

Blair (6-4) was the winning pitcher after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits over six innings, striking out two. Spaeth and Ally Battistoni both had multiple hit games.
