(NewsDakota.com/NDSU) – Scientists of all disciplines are invited to be a part of accelerating soybean innovation during the third annual 2023 NDSU Soybean Symposium March 30 and 31 at the North Dakota State University Alumni Center in Fargo.

The symposium, hosted by North Dakota’s only soybean breeder Carrie Miranda and supported by the North Dakota Soybean Council, strategically bridges multiple disciplines: soybean agronomy, breeding and new-uses research to foster collaboration. Participants can expect to build exchanges and develop new networks for cutting-edge research. Registration is free and includes meals and snacks each day. According to Miranda, an assistant professor and project leader for the soybean breeding program at NDSU, this event will provide much-needed information and connections for participants who are interested in the research-to-product journey.

“The main goal of the symposium is to bring a mix of specializations together, including new research and end-use partnerships,” said Miranda.

The symposium features keynote speaker Ed Anderson, an Iowa farm kid who earned his B.S. in Agricultural Biochemistry from Iowa State University and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Molecular Plant Virology / Plant Pathology at the University of Missouri.

Anderson serves as the senior director of Research at the Iowa Soybean Association and is also the executive director of the North Central Soybean Research Program.

His passion for farming, basic and applied research, and the soybean industry in general drives him to pursue collaborative activities with the best and brightest who are committed to advancing farming, science and technology.

Students attending the symposium will have the opportunity to participate in a competition for a cash prize for best research presentation.

An original watercolor artwork featuring the soybean life cycle, created by Yuki Coyle, a multimedia artist based in Fargo-Moorhead, is the subject of a quality poster each symposium attendee receives.
