JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – With a raucous crowd at Newman Arena Tuesday night, the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team came up short in the GPAC title game as the Jimmies fell 86-81 to Dordt.

Two of the best offenses in all of the NAIA were on display at Newman Arena as both teams came into the game shooting above 50% from the field for the season. Dordt held the advantage in shooting percentage and continued their hot shooting in the championship game, going 34-60 on all field goals for 57%.

Jamestown and Dordt went into the half tied at 42, but a big start to the second half for the Defenders gave them momentum. Dordt increased its lead to double figures on more than one occasion in the final 20 minutes, as the Jimmies were unable to break through.

Dordt dominated Jamestown in the paint, outscoring the Jimmies 48-20 for the game.

Reid Gastner led UJ with 23 points and Mason Walters added 20. Will Cordes had 14 points and Marc Kjos was also in double figures with 12. Dordt had five players finish in double figures, including Jacob Vis who led Dordt with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Both teams will await to see who they play in the opening round of the national tournament. The Jimmies will host the first and second rounds while the Defenders will be on the road.
