Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The top seeded Ellendale Cardinals and second seeded Carrington Cardinals both lost in the semifinal round of the District 5 tournament and will have to win tomorrow in region qualifying games to advance to next weeks Region 3 tournament. Ellendale lost to the fourth seeded LaMoure-Litchville-Marion (LLM) Loboes 59-51 in the first semifinal and Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier (EKM) knocked off Carrington 64-49 in the final game of the day. Griggs-Midkota (GM) defeated Oakes 57-47 in a loser out contest ending the Tornadoes season with a 4-17 overall record.

The Titans would outscore Oakes 37-24 in the second half after trailing by 3 at halftime (23-20) to end the Tornadoes season. Kyle Johnson paced the Titans with 14 points and added 6 rebounds. Latrell Rainey added 9 points and a game high 13 rebounds for the Titans. Eli Larson (12 points) and Wyatt Spickler (10 points) aided the GM offense. Noah Sundby paced the Oakes offense with a game high 20 points (6-threes). Roddek Schmit added 10 points and 8 rebounds and Trey Skoglund chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds for Oakes. GM improved to 9-12 overall and will play Ellendale at 6:00 P.M. tomorrow night in a Region 3 qualifying game. Oakes season ended at 4-17 overall.

LaMoure-LM  Loboes  59     Ellendale Cardinals  51

The Loboes outscored Ellendale in every quarter and defeated the top seeded Cardinals 59-51. Colton Ness scored 10 of his game high 16 points from the free throw line going 10 of 11 for 90%. Ness added 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Max Musland added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and a game high 4 steals aiding the Loboe victory. Connor Johnson would add 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals for LLM. Anton Geller scored a game high 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Cardinals. Riley Thorpe added 12 points and 4 rebounds and Mason Molan added 11 points for the Cardinals. LLM improved to 13-8 overall and Ellendale dropped to 18-2 (11-9) overall.

EKM Rebels  64     Carrington Cardinals  49

EKM jumped out to an early lead and led by as many as 15 points at 30-15 late in the first half. Carrington would score the final 5 points of the half and cut the the Rebel lead to 10 at 30-20. Carrington would outscore the Rebels 18-14 in the third quarter cutting the lead to 6 points at 44-38. The Cards scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter, cutting the EKM lead to 2 points at 44-42.  The Rebels would close out the final quarter on 20-7 run to cap off the 15 point win. The game had a total of 39 fouls with 44 free throws attempted. The Rebels won the free throw battle making 17 of 27 and the Cards made 7 of 17. Jacob Nitschke paced the Rebels with a game high 17 points, 3 assists, 3 blocked shots, and 13 rebounds. Austin Strobel added 15 points and 8 rebounds for the Rebels. Zeke Barnick added 9 points and 5 rebounds for EKM. Carrington was paced by Jack Erickson with 13 points and 11 rebounds along with Hudson Schmitz with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Josh Bickett added 8 points, a game high 3 assists, and 3 rebounds. Carrington dropped to 12-9 overall and EKM improved to 11-9.

Tuesday night schedule will have Barnes County North playing Carrington at 4:30 and Ellendale will face Griggs-Midkota at 6:00, both games are Region 3 qualifiers and the District 5 championship game will start at 7:30 with EKM squaring off with LLM.
