Marian Koering, 94, Valley City, North Dakota, died Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at SMP Health-St. Raphael, Valley City, knowing that she would be back by her husband Bob’s side.

Marion Louise Thompson was born January 7, 1929 at Hatton, North Dakota.  She was the daughter of Alfred and Annetta (Frydenlund) Thompson.  Marion attended school in Hatton where she graduated in 1947.  She went on to attend Mayville Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate.  She taught school for one year before her marriage to Robert (Bob) Koering on April 2, 1949.  They made their home in Mayville and Hatton until Bob’s job in the electrician field took them to Bottineau, Westhope and Newberg areas until 1964 when they made their permanent home in Valley City.  Marion worked for the Fair Store for several years before retiring.  

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Marion helped out with Girl Scouts and was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.  She was known for her entertaining and always had the coffee pot on.  Her and Bob both liked to play cards so they spent time with friends playing games.  Marian is also remembered for the wonderful donuts and banana bread she made.  She also crocheted potholders and many, many snowflakes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and 9 brothers.

Marion is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.  They all knew her as Meme.

The graveside service and burial will be held this spring at the Carl Ben Eilson Cemetery, Hatton.
