Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Linton-HMB Lions and Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier (EKM) Rebels both used big second halves to score victories in the Region 3 semifinals. Linton would outscore KC 36-23 in the second half after trailing 13-11 in a low scoring first half, picking up a 47-36 win. The Rebels trailed 22-10 after the opening quarter to Carrington and trailed 30-20 going into halftime. The Rebels would outscore Carrington 35-19 in the second half and earn a 55-49 victory.

A sluggish first half from both teams had KC leading 13-11 going into the intermission. The Lions and Wolves both shot 4 of 21 from the field in the first half, just 19 percent from the field. Linton would heat up early in the second half scoring 10 points in the first 2:10 of the third quarter sparked by Emma Weiser and Jersey Vogel 3 pointers and 2 more field goals from Weiser and Allie Dockter prompted a KC timeout. The Lions outscored the Wolves 18-9 in the third quarter and added another 18 points in the final quarter to defeat the Wolves 47-36. The Lions shot 50 percent (12-24) in the second half.  Vogel had a game high 14 points for the Lions and added 2 steals. Weiser and Kaylee Weninger both finished with  a double-double, scoring 10 points each and adding 13 rebounds for Weiser, and Weninger added 10 rebounds. Dockter had a game high 4 assists to aid the Lions offense.

The Wolves were paced by Kennedy Harter with a game high 14 points and 14 rebounds. Harter also finished the game with 4 blocked shots, a game high as well. Taylor Zimmerman added 8 points and Avery Rath finished with 7 points and 6 rebounds for the Wolves.

Linton improved to 14-9 overall and KC dropped to 18-4 on the season.

E-K-M Rebels  55     Carrington  49

The Cardinals got off tom a fast start leading 22-10 after the first quarter aided by 4 three pointers, 2 from Kacie Rexin, and 1 each from Madi Johnson and Isabel Wendel. The Rebels kept the game within distance outscoring Carrington 10-8 in the second quarter but still trailed 30-20 at the break. The Rebels defense and rebounding throughout the game took a toll on the Cardinals in the second half. EKM outrebounded the Cards 31-16 and had a 35-19 scoring advantage. Mataeya Mathern scored a game high 17 points and 7 rebounds. Mathern would also add 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots for a very solid overall game. Kiara Jangula helped spark the offense in the second half scoring all 13 of her points in the final 2 quarters. Libby Mathern added 10 points and 5 rebounds and Reagan Teske added 8 points and 5 rebounds for the Rebels.

Carrington was paced by Rexin with 16 points and a game high 4 steals. Haley Wolsky added 14 points and 3 steals. Wendel finished with 11 points  and Johnson with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. The Cards dropped to 17-6 overall and EKM improved to 18-5, avenging 2 losses to the Cardinals during the regular season.

The championship night will start on Friday night at Jamestown Civic Center at 6:00 with Carrington facing Kidder County in the third place game and the Region 3 championship game to follow approximately 30 minutes later.
