Abby Redfearn and N.D. U.S. Senator John Hoeven
WASHINGON, D.C. (NewsDakota.com) – Abby Redfearn, a Junior at VCHS, spent the Fall semester in Washington D.C. working as a Senate Page in the US Senate Page Program. Page duties center around assisting Senators in the Senate Chamber when Congress is in session and consist primarily of delivery of correspondence and legislative material. Other duties include taking messages for Members, calling them to the phone, preparing the Chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk.
Redfearn spent five months in D.C. as an active member of this prestigious program. She was awarded the Chemistry Award, which indicates that she was top of her class in that subject and that she “helped other students excel and faced challenging problems with ease.”
Redfearn said that she enjoyed field trips to Philadelphia, Hershey Park, Mount Vernon, Jamestown, and Williamsburg. One of her favorites was seeing Hamilton at the Kennedy Center.
Redfearn also said, “I really enjoyed meeting new people with the same passions as me. We ate, went to school, worked, and lived with each other every day, so we got really close and overcame challenges together.”
